The canton of Jura announced on Wednesday [26 June] to its deputies that it would renounce the moratorium on the construction of 5G antennas after receiving clarifications from the Confederation. Vaud and Geneva, which have obtained the same information, react differently.

5G continues to stir up controversy and the cantons are moving forward in scattered fashion. Vaud, Geneva and the Jura received the same explanations in a letter from Bern. But this letter did not have the same effect in each of the regions concerned, RTS learned.

On the Geneva side, nothing is being changed. Councillor Antonio Hodgers maintains the moratorium on procedures for new antennas. Because in his words, "there is nothing new" in the letter sent last week by the Federal Office for the Environment. At the end of April, the canton of Geneva decided to suspend the procedures, thus following the cantons of Vaud and Jura.

"No comment"

In Lausanne, no comments were made. Jacqueline de Quattro's Department of Environment says that it is the State Council that will make the decision, probably next Wednesday, RTS has learned. Some sources believe that the canton of Vaud could follow the Jura, opening the door to operators.
